Submitting a request

All requests for professional recognition for teachers must now be submitted via an online application. Please read the page below carefully before submitting your request.

If you are not a teacher, you can find more information on the "Professional Recognition" page.

You can apply for professional recognition of your teacher qualifications online if:

  • You are a fully qualified teacher in one of the member countries of the European Economic Area

and

  • If you wish to hold one or more teaching positions in a Wallonia-Brussels Federation school.

View the instructions below before taking any further steps.
The documents to be submitted in order to file an application for professional recognition are:

  • copy of both sides of your identity card or passport (Belgian or otherwise);
  • colour copy of both sides of the diploma(s) in the original language + a translation into French or English carried out by a sworn translator;
  • copies of the transcripts of all your years of graduate studies (not only the last year of study), in the original language + a translation into French or English carried out by a sworn translator;
  • an official document attesting that you are a fully qualified teacher 1 in an EEA country and specifying the subjects you can teach, as well as the ages of the students concerned (e.g. English; 12-15 years): in the original language + a translation into French or English carried out by a sworn translator;

Example of documents that are accepted: for teachers in France, a tenure order or a definitive teaching contract concluded with a private institution under the supervision of the Ministry of National Education;

  • a recent curriculum vitae;
  • all documents relating to any professional experience as a teacher, verifying, for example, the duration, schedule (full-time or part-time, number of hours worked per week) as well as the disciplines taught: in the original language + a translation into French or English carried out by you.

Depending on the information provided to you by your case manager, a request for payment of the procedural costs (€65) will be sent to you later in order to finalise your request for professional recognition.

 Translations

Translation concerns original documents not written in French or English

The quality of the sworn translator chosen must be attested with the electronic signature of the sworn translator in Belgium (Register of sworn translators in Belgium) or by a competent foreign authority (notary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, etc.).

The translation must be sworn for the following documents: diploma(s), transcripts, official document attesting that you are a fully qualified teacher.

For other documents, the translation can be carried out by an uncertified translator or by yourself.

To be communicated to the translator:

When the diploma is not written in Latin alphabet (Greek, Cyrillic, Persian, Arabic, etc.), be sure to indicate in quotation marks the transcription of the grade in the Latin alphabet.

Examples: diploma of "ptychio", "bakalavr".

The Directorate for the Recognition of Foreign Credentials receives your request. A notification email will be sent to you confirming the online filing of your request*. A case manager will then analyse your application and contact you to inform you of the professional certification options (approximately 20 days)

As this is an indicative timeframe, the Directorate for the Recognition of Foreign Credential asks you not to send a new application and to wait for the manager to contact you.

“this email is from “noreply-cama@etnic.be”. If you do not receive anything after submitting your request, please look in your spam folder.

A messaging system is included in the application: no direct email communication will be possible with your case manager.

  • Once your request has been analysed by our service, you will receive an email notification inviting you to log in to your account and view your request online. Your case manager will inform you via the application of the possibilities of obtaining professional recognition and the cost of the procedure or will direct you to the most appropriate method according to your objective, your qualifications and the information entered.

IMPORTANT: On the basis of this analysis and this additional information, you will then be able to choose whether or not to continue the procedure.

  • If you choose to continue with the procedure, you will be able to finalise your initial request and pay the costs of the procedure according to the information provided to you.

See the "Procedure for requesting professional recognition” page for more information concerning the process, timeframes and administrative costs.

  • Problems may occur with some browsers. We recommend Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
